Growing Soft Red Winter Wheat in Ohio
Soft red winter wheat is an important crop throughout Ohio and the eastern United States. It is commonly used in specialty products such as sponge cakes, cookies, crackers, and other confectionery products.
For our farm, wheat provides an important part of our crop rotation alongside corn and soybeans. Unlike our spring-planted crops, winter wheat is planted in the fall, grows through the winter and spring, and is harvested in early summer.
That different growing window makes wheat a valuable part of our overall operation.
2026 Wheat Harvest
By the time the combine enters a wheat field, months of work have already gone into producing the crop. From fall planting through spring management and finally harvest, there are plenty of decisions that go into getting a wheat crop to the finish line.
Harvest timing is especially important. Once the wheat is ready, we want to get it out of the field efficiently while conditions are right to maximize test weight and quality.
We’re proud to grow wheat here in Northwest Ohio and to be part of the larger agricultural supply chain that connects Ohio farms with consumers around the country and the world.
